Community activist Dave Meslin organized the one-day Toronto Neighbourhood Summit, which BPRO attended on April 6. Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods and the agenda was to share ideas between various resident organizations, learn from each other, and discuss ways that we can work together across the entire city. Meslin is lobbying for a way to increase citizen participation in municipal decision-making in light of the smaller 25-ward system. It was an informative day and the audience at the conclusion of the summit voted to authorize Dave to continue working on how a city-wide organization focusing on this kind of activity might be organized. BPRO looks forward to reviewing the results of Dave’s further work.
